Objective: A government-owned electricity generator had recently refreshed its corporate strategy in line with Queensland’s energy transition targets. The organisation’s Procurement and Supply leadership team, newly re-formed and operating under fresh leadership, was tasked with developing a functional strategy and plan aligned to this new direction. The goal: co-create a clear, deliverable strategy that aligned upwards with the corporate strategy and downwards into actionable team plans, all within tight timeframes.

Approach: Catalyst Strategy designed and facilitated a two-day strategy workshop that brought together the full Procurement and Supply leadership cohort. Recognising this was the first time the broader team had come together in its new form, we invested early in pre-engagement to build rapport, align expectations, and establish clarity around the workshop’s scope. This included virtual pre-briefings, context-setting communications, and collaborative pre-work to explore the macro-environment.

Our design focused on simplicity, structure, and inclusive participation. Clear battery limits were established: this was a focused strategy uplift, not a wholesale rewrite. Activities encouraged contribution from all leaders, fostering a sense of shared ownership and confidence in the process. The facilitation style balanced forward-looking ambition with practical grounding in delivery capability and stakeholder expectations.

The workshop was facilitated with care to promote open discussion and shared understanding, laying the groundwork for greater internal cohesion and trust over time.

Positive Impact: The result was a co-created, fit-for-purpose functional evolution strategy that was practical, aligned, and capable of delivery. It connected the team’s aspirations with the corporate strategy above and provided a platform for consistent and clear sub-functional planning and individual development below.
